![]() For the first couple of nights, I assumed it was just a sign that I was in incredibly dodgy motels which had somehow avoided ever being inspected, but it really does look like it's acceptable in America to have a light switch in the bathroom. Perhaps the electricity here is regarded as being too feeble to harm anyone. Those first hotels also had separate hot and cold taps in the bathroom with no obvious indication which was which. After a couple of days, I started to take note of which way round they were and it seems that the hot is always on the left. Perhaps that's just an accepted convention here. I heard somewhere that there's also a convention in America for which way round the brake levers are on bikes' handlebars.
