 This section of the road isn't very pleasant because the shoulder is quite narrow, sometimes narrower than this or non-existent. Here I experienced a sudden violent jolt which felt like something had gone very wrong with the bike. It turned out that all that had happened was one of the water bottle holders had broken and fallen off, and may have then hit the back wheel. It's right on the bottom of this badly-framed picture. I'm not worried that it's come off: it had been partly broken for a few days because I've tried to jam a Powerade bottle into it, which it wasn't designed for. That in turn is because I somehow lost one of my proper water bottles the day I arrived in Dallas. I was already intending to buy a replacement bottle and holder tomorrow.
