I'm now riding in the dusk through a strange landscape of short hedges and even shorter stubbly fields, with agricultural machinery busily and noisly working away all over it. I can understand that perhaps the harvesting needs to all be done on one day but that doesn't explain why the hedges are being trimmed. It's as if the farmers are trying to transform the entire landscape overnight.
