I'm happy that long Summer evenings have come back. At 9:28 pm, the sky in Melbourne is still noticeably lighter than it was in Brisbane at 7:04. 60 minutes of that difference is because Queensland and Victoria are in different time zones, 32 minutes is because Melbourne is 8 degrees further West than Brisbane, and 13 minutes is because we're at a different point on the equation of time but that still leaves 39 minutes which is due to me having moved into higher latitudes. There must be a corresponding 39 minutes in the morning so the sky here in Melbourne is currently at least this light for at least 78 minutes longer each day than it was in Brisbane, and I was in Brisbane just five days before the solstice so that would have been as light as it ever gets there.
