 I came back to Höfn contemplating how to get myself and the bike to Reykjavik. I read what my guidebook had to say about buses, planes and car hire. I was about to go online and research those options when I looked at the bike again and realised that I could attach the panier rack to the eye holes which had previously held the mud guard. They look almost as strong as the original ones, although the original ones clearly weren't actually strong enough. The velcro strap here is just holding the mudguard in place now that it no longer has a proper place to attach to. I'll go for a ride with it like this and see how it fares. I'm now setting off from Höfn again, about two hours after the first time. At least I won't be early getting to my next hotel now.
