 I've got a broken spoke. I was very surprised that it happened when I was ridin along such a smooth path as this. It did happen as the path tilted upwards to climb up to the level of a bridge. I have broken two spokes in previous years in similar circumstances so I think it might be the sudden extra effort of having to climb a hill that brakes them. This one broke at the end in the middle of the wheel, like all my broken spokes in 2009 but unlike the one which broke last year. I repaired it a little more quickly than on previous occasions and it has held for the rest of the day but of course I have been worrying about the spokes all afternoon and checking them frequently. The 40 minutes which I spent replacing the spoke coincided with the longest of the day's rain showers. It fellt like a section from a really miserable holiday had been spliced into a quite enjoyable one.
