 This is Arras, where I stayed one night in 2004. I made today's a short ride because of the weather and intended to use part of my time in Arras this evening adjusting the spokes on the rear wheel. I had originally planned to adjust them yesterday, either while waiting for the shuttle train or while actually on the train, but I ended up coming by boat instead and since you aren't allowed to stay on the boat's car deck during the crossing, that didn't happen. In the last 10 miles into Arras, two spokes broke and the rear wheel has now gone a very odd shape. I can't possibly ride the bike any more until either the spokes or the wheel get replaced. Somebody at work did recommend that I brought some spare spokes. Unfortunately, he recommended that three hours before I set off, after I had finished packing. I haven't replaced a spoke before anyway, and can't really see how it should be done on the side where the cogs are. Apparently, there is a bike shop just a couple of streets away from my hotel. Perhaps you would like to start guessing now what excuse it will come up with not to be open.
