Cycle lanes, such as the red strip here, are rare in Zagreb. People seem to cycle on the pavements all over the place but there aren't normally any signs saying that it is allowed so I have walked a lot of the way and ridden in the road where I thought I could get away with it. No drivers have complained but I haven't seen anybody else riding in the road. Most of the cycle lanes are one-way, normally with the lane going the other way on the other side of the road. It does seem that where there are cycle lanes, most cyclists are going the wrong way, like here.

On the way out of Zagreb, I followed a tram for a while. It worked well because it went at a good speed and there was nothing else in its lane which, unnecessarily, had a good flat riding surface. I don't think I should have been doing that though. I'm not sure where the legal place to ride would have been.

I don't really like Zagreb. I hope the rest of Croatia is better as I will be in the country for a few days.
