Here's a problem. I've passed a few signs saying that bicycles are only allowed on the shoulder. Whoever thought up that policy has obviously never been along the road though. Behind me, the road comes round quite a tight corner between two cliff faces which means that I can't see far enough up the road to enable me to pick a gap in the traffic which is long enough to let me get across the bridge. After a while, I just had to take the plunge and pedal as hard as I possible could to get across the bridge as quickly as possible. It wasn't easy because the wind was so hard that it ripped the plastic covering off my helmet so that by the time I collapsed on the gravel at the far side of the bridge, I was just wearing a lump of polystyrene on my head. I don't know what happened to the cover but I certainly wasn't going to go back to look for it.
