 The San Miguel Canyon. I've just come up the road on the right. I've now left the Western Express route for a few days in order to avoid a 130 mile section which I thought offered no possibility of accommodation. Looking at the map again tonight, I would see that there is some kind of accommodation available at the campsite half-way along that section but the map does not represent it in the same way as other motels or hotels. It doesn't matter though. I know of other cyclists who have been the way I'm going and I think it is just as good. Some try to shorten today's journey between Montrose and Naturita by taking a short cut over the mountains on unsigned gravel roads. I don't think any of them enjoy the experience. There's a worrying wobble coming from my back wheel now. It feels like it's about to break up. I would spend the rest of the day continually working out what time I would reach Naturita if I had to walk for the rest of the way.
