This is Cotopaxi, where I rejoin highway 50, the railway and the Arkansas River, which have come up from Pueblo together through the Royal Gorge, which has the highest suspension bridge in the world. Makes a change from the longest, I suppose. I don't think I mentioned that the bridge which brought me over the Ohio river at Wheeling was also the world's longest in its day.

There's some thunder and lightning, which is quite scary. I think I should cary on though rather than waiting for it to pass. After all, there's not much risk of getting struck by lightning at the bottom of that canyon.

In my hotel tonight, I would read the journal of another cyclist who came this was about a week ago. He was moaning on and on about the amount of traffic and how agressive the driving was. It was like he was talking about a completely different road. The only vehicle which I thought was getting unnecessarily close to me was the pickup truck whose passenger called out to ask if I wanted a lift because it was raining. I don't know what kind of wimp she thought I was.
