I was on my way to an out-of-town shopping centre where the yellow pages said there was a mobile phone shop when I noticed that the Sprint network had a little shop by the riverside. The man in there was very helpful and spent several minutes discussing the problem and looking at coverage maps. I explained the problems I had been having with my AT&T phone and was expecting to be given some not entirely believeable story about how Sprint was much more reliable and of course I should get a new phone. I would have bought one anyway, just on the basis that I was more likely to have some success if I had three phones on different networks than I was with two. Unexpectedly, the man said that he didn't think his network would be any better than the one I was already using and that I shouldn't try to buy a new phone until I found somewhere else where mine didn't work.

Ironically, my camera has thrown a bit of a wobbly again and it's now the phone which has come to the rescue! It's good to see that my radio-controlled watch is working now. It corrected itself while I was in the Confulence House in Pennsylvania but then didn't manage it again for ages. Since the correction signals come from Colorado, I would have been surprised if it hadn't worked here.
