Snake! I think it's dead though. I did see one in Pennsylvania but didn't stop to photograph it. The wildlife has changed a lot along my route. There are no more groundhogs now. For several days, probably around Missouri, I saw a lot of dead armadillos but never a live one. There's still the occasional deer; one ran out in front of both me and a car a couple of days ago.

Now the most common creatures are some kind of cricket or cicada. When I first heard their noise on the day I joined the TransAm, I thought something had gone wrong with the bike. They seem to have become my friends now though. One just rode on my hand for a couple of miles. Perhaps the ones which fly into my spokes don't appreciate me so much.
