Which one is the real 66? It doesn't really matter; they all go to the same place. Very few people going about their normal business seem to use the outer roads, just people who are out having fun like me and several groups of motorbikers. A large Finnish group overtook me at one stage. I later saw them go past again but on the opposite road.

Here's a funny thing. I've noticed that whenever I'm on a bike, regardless of how much luggage I've got with me, people just seem to assume I live in whatever town I happen to be in at the time. I've frequently been asked for directions, often in languages which I don't understand. Put your bike on route 66 however and immediately you're a long-distance tourists. I had loads of peope give me a friendly honk and a wave today. Some of them did it from the fast lane of the motorway, which must have been confusing for the other drivers.

These are good hills. They're not too steep but enough to make things interesting. They are small enough that you can coast a reasonable fraction of the way up them. It would be nice if it was a little bit cooler though.
