The man from Fat Bikes gets to work on mine. He started repairing the faults which I knew of, then proceeded to find even more. There was period when he though I had some strange European size of tyre which you couldn't get in America but it turned out that they are a standard size just with a different labelling convention. He expertly adjusted all sorts of things and replaced something called the bottom bracket. I don't really know much about bikes. After nearly two hours, he started to despair of the number of things which had been wrong with the bike and said he was going to stop looking for more. For the amount of work that he did, it didn't seem too expensive.

You mignt have noticed that my back light is on in this picture. That's a variation on a problem which it's had for a while. Previously, it hasn't always been possible to turn it on and it has sometimes gone off while I haven't been looking. Today, it's come on by itself and can't be turned off. This man replaced it for a new one.

On leaving the shop, I found that he had raised the saddle without me noticing. Perhaps he did that while I went to the cash machine to get some money for him. It's a bit hard to reach the ground now but perhaps he did it for a reason. Given the speed at which the bike was going all afternoon, I think he must have also fitted an engine. The improvement in speed is probably party due to the fact that the headwind now seems to have completely subsided, an to the continuing flatness of the land, but I think the Fat Bikes improvements were probably also a significant contribution.
