Flowers. You may have noticed that I'm not in Indianapolis. A combination of the Internet and the Yellow Pages in my hotel room showed that there were no bike shops anywhere near to highway 40 on the west side of the city. The best-looking ones were all about 12 km out of the centre, back towards Ohio. However, it did turn out that there's a promising-looking shop right on my route in Terre Haute, 70 miles from Indianapolis and near the end of today's ride. I'm going to see if I can get there today. I'm making good progress at the moment.

One of the adverts in the Yellow Pages admitted that its shop didn't open until 11 o'clock, which brought on all sorts of bad feelings about bike shops. In my experience, they either open really late, close absurdly early, take days off completely for no apparent reason, claim they've got a big job on or half the staff missing, or just disappear completely. Anything really to get out of having to sell anybody anything. That couldn't happen here in America too, could it?
