Here it is, look. Indianapolis. I'm surprised I got this far. 130 miles is the threshold for what I regard as a long ride. Although I have ridden further in a day before, I'm not sure if I've done it into a constant headwind and I certainly haven't done it with most of the gears missing. Actually, those problems complemented, rather than compounded, one another; even if the highest gears had been available, I wouldn't have used them much because of the wind. If the gears had been as they are but there had been no wind, it would still have taken me as long as it did to get here, it just would have been less effort.

It's also possible that I might have never ended a day's ride this far from where I started it. Highway 40 is very straight and gets you to where you're going pretty efficiently. The Knights Inn in Springfield is now 198 km away.
