When I left the hotel, the sky was very dark and threatening to rain and there was an incredible wind. As far as I could tell between all the buildings, it seemed to be coming from the west. Pretty soon, the wind stopped but the rain started. I took shelter in front of a theatre working out how late I could afford to leave Columbus and still reach my next hotel in the daylight. After half an hour, I got bored of that and went out in the rain anyway. I've got enough reflective stuff to be visible through the spray and being wet is much more pleasant than being cold and wet, which is what happens when I ride in the rain back home. It was arguably more pleasant than riding in the hot sun here.

Unfortunately, the road out to the west of Columbus was in terrible condition and much busier than the road in from the east had been yesterday evening. It gave me a puncture.

Ironically, after I managed to get the rear mechanism out of its high gear a couple of days ago, the cable for the front mechanism has now broken and it's stuck in its bottom gear. On hilly ground, the bike would complain about me using the bottom front gear with the top back gear but it's happy enough here. I seem to be maintaining a reasonable speed, not that I can really be sure because the bike computer has also now gone haywire.
