'None shall pass!' 'The Black Knight always triumphs!'. When I first saw one of these signs yestrday, I thought it meant I couldn't go any further down the road. What it actually seems to mean is 'no overtaking'. You know: red circle, red car, black car. It seems that double solid lines up the midle of the road don't seem to tell you antyhing about whether you can overtake or not.

This is Amish country now. I saw a few blacked-out horse-drawn buggies trundling along the roads round here, and people in the traditional dress. One girl was on a funny kind of ancient-looking bike with no pedals. It was more like a scooter but with wheels almost the size of bike wheels.
