 Bilbao is a long thin conurbation along the lower reaches of the River Nervión, ending at the sea. My journey today will be 37 km, along pretty much the whole length of it. Apart from the section in the city centre, most of the ride will be on dedicated greenways like this, which have a lane each way for bikes and one for pedestrians. This one starts like this out in the countryside near my hotel, goes over the ridge of hills into the Nervión Valley, and ends up weaving a complicated pattern around highways and railways through the suburbs.
