 Boarding seems like quite a leisurely process. The train was stopped for about a minute and the guard got off and checked everybody's tickets on the platform. It felt like if I turned up with a bike and a valid ticket for it they would allow me time to get the bike, my bags and myself onto the train. Out of the whole train, only one door opened so that probably answers my question about where on the platform I need to stand. None of the doors had a bike symbol next to them. One said "dining car", one said "lounge car" and the rest all said "coach class". That's a bit odd because I've booked a busiess class seat. I wonder if that's the same thing as the lounge car.
