![]() Having looked at some pictures from earlier weeks, I don't think there is anything wrong with the bike's crankshaft: I think that gap has always been there. However I still don't want to embark on a full day's ride without a spare chain. I was happy to do today's ride because it was only 23 miles so if the chain had broken I could still have hobby-horsed the rest of the way. Neither Mount Vernon nor Centralia has a bike shop any more. My hotels in both towns are close to Wal-Marts but neither of those has a 9-speed chain in stock. In theory it's possible to order one but I don't think I can do that because my payment card doesn't have an American billing address. While I've been sitting here I've had another search online. What I thought was strange was that one search result said that the only bike shop in Centralia is Wal-Mart, but showed a picture of the building which we are looking at here, which is the town's leisure centre.
