Angry Dave's Bicycles, at the top of the hill just where I expected it to be. It's open and was able to do everything that I wanted. Angry Dave himself wasn't there at first but the man who served me was extremely helpful and did a thorough job. It was everything I could have asked for. He replaced both my tyres and the inner tube which had the slow puncture, sold me two more spare tubes, and found that the bottom bracket hadn't been installed correctly. That explained why it had been clicking and why it has been so hard to get the chain onto the big cog at the front. Using just the small cog has been fine until now but I think that from here on, I will be spending a lot of time on pretty flat ground with a tailwind, so being able to cruise along in the high gears will be useful.

Normally a shop which sells a bike provides this service for free after a month or so but that isn't really possible if you buy a new bike and immediately leave the state on it.

Since the ride back from the shop to the hotel was all downhill, I didn't get chance to test what it's like to pedal the bike now but at least I know that the brakes work.

The aches in my legs still seem to be gradually improving. Walking up the hill wasn't very painful at all. However now my eyes are hurting. The very bright sunshine and these white pavements aren't helping that. I looked to see if the shop sold any kind of headband to keep sweat our of my eyes but I couldn't see one. I did realise though that my hair has become long enough to reach my eyeballs and wondered whether that could be causing the irritation. On getting back to the hotel I crudely trimmed my fringe to see if helped. That at least justifies bringing a big pair of scissors with me.
