 As predicted, I do have a tailwind today. With a bit of struggling, I have managed to get the chain into the top gear on the front mechanism but now that it's in that gear, I don't want to take it out again, meaning that the bike now only has about five available gears but they are higher gears than it had yesterday, meaning that I can do a decent speed. Having said that, today is Sunday so I was overtaken by quite a lot of recreational cyclists on unladen racing bikes.
