My chain slipped a couple of times yesterday, which is why I replaced it at the end of the day. The new one is considerably worse. Now it slips all the time when I'm using any of the high gears on the rear mechanism. For a few weeks now, I've been unable to even get the chain into the high gear on the front mechanism. Together, those two problems mean that what was a 30 speed bike now only has 12 of its lowest gears available. I'm now back to having two spare chains but since changing it yesterday made it worse, I'm not sure whether I want to change it again. I'll stick with the existing one for a while and see how much it annoys me. Tomorrow will be 64 km on totally flat ground with a tailwind. Normally, I would expect that to be a fast ride but if I can't use any of the high gears, it will instead be a normal speed ride which just requires very little effort.

This hotel has a huge, posh-looking restaurant. I had to walk through it to get to my room. It looked much bigger than would be necessary for the size of the hotel but surely nobody would go out to a motorway services for a candlelit dinner if they weren't actually staying here. There was a supermarket nearby though so I've just bought some food from there.
