This is on sale in the gift shop for about €150 but up close it doesn't actually look much like the Bayeux Tapestry at all. The main problem with it is that this actually is a tapestry: a cloth woven out of threads of multiple colours. The Bayeux Tapestry is a plain white cloth with the pictures embroidered onto it. You can get close enough to see the individual stitches. It's hard to believe that it's over 900 years old. Some of the scenes of horses falling over or getting stuck in quicksand are amazing. You can see in this picture how peoples' faces and hands are drawn as outlines whereas clothes and the horses' bodies are filled in. One thing I liked, which I wasn't previously aware of, is that peoples' legs are also just outlines when they are getting on of off boats and wading through the sea with their trousers off. I also didn't know in advance that the Tapestry is mounted on a larger backing cloth with the scene numbers painted on it. According to Wikipedia, the cloth dates from 1724 and the numbers from about 1800.
