 Since 1973, Belfast has had a new Lord Mayor every year. It takes a couple of years for the official portraits to be made so the most recent picture here, on the left, is the Lord Mayor from two years ago. Every year, the latest portrait gets hung in that position and all the others get bumped along by one place. When the reach the end of this corridor, they go upstairs. Each mayor gets to choose the artist and the style of their portrait. The second one here has had himself portrayed wearing his gold chain while on a bus.
