A milestone by the canal. The road signs are back in miles too, which confuses me for a moment every time I see one. An information board near here explains that the Newry Canal, which was built in 1742, was the first canal in the British Isles to go over a hill to link two valleys, but that it is now abandoned and largely reclaimed by nature.
