I was already expecting quite a long day tomorrow. Later tonight, I would revise the route to make it even longer, in order to avoid a road which is made of gravel and could well be flooded. The interactive map on the Missouri Department of Transport website seems to only show flood warnings for surfaced roads so if I plan to stay on surfaced roads which don't have warnings, then I hope I won't have any nasty surprises. I will be using the Katy Trail tomorrow, which is gravel but it was designed for cyclists and I used it with no trouble in 2007 so I think it will be fine. The Katy Trail does run alongside the Missouri River but it website implies that the river would need to be a few metres deeper that it currently is in order to cause any closures, which makes sense because surely nobody would have built a railway so close to the river level that it could flood easily. It's worth remembering though that I'm now in the Eastern part of a time zone again, and I'm heading South so I'm losing the advantage of long summer days, and it's nearly September, so dusk is coming at about eight o'clock.
