The highest point of the day, at 1469 metres. Today was always going to be a challenge. I've booked hotels for the first 26 days of this trip, and roughly planned what will come after that, and there won't be another day with as much climbing as today. At 90 miles, today is also one of the longer days. It's quite heartening that I've been able to get through it even on a day when I've been coughing up lumps.

The other big challenge will be this Thursday, which will be 118 miles but should have some long downhill sections to make those miles rack up quickly.

A cyclist whom I met in Corvallis was trying to convince me to go an even longer way today because he said it was beautiful, although he was talking about what it's like when there's thick snow. I can't go that way though because parts of that road won't see the total eclipse.
