For the first 50 miles today, I was cruising along with a tailwind. Then my route turned North and I've been struggling into a headwind for a few hours. Here, it looks like the road is being expanded to twice its current width but strangely, the process seems to require that for a couple of sections, it is reduced to half its current width. To avoid impeding traffic, I had to ride through those sections as fast as I could, which wasn't easy against the wind, and as close to the edge as I could, which was quite risky as in some places, there was a steep drop-off at the edge. Just to make it worse, for a few hundred metres, the edge was covered in a nasty brown slurry.
