In 1891, while Accrington were still playing in the League, another club was formed in the town. This club was named Stanley Villa because it was based at the Stanley Arms pub. When the original Accrington team went out of business, Stanley Villa changed its name to Accrington Stanley.

This is the main entrance to their ground, the Crown Ground, where the first game took place in 1968. The capacity is 5057. I don't have the record attendance figure. The capacity of this ground is almost exactly a quarter that of Notts County's Meadow Lane, where I watched a game on Friday evening, even though Accrington Stanley and Notts County are currently in the same division.

It looks like there is a big litter-picking operation going on today. I've seen a lot of youths wandering around with grabbers. He's got one.
