Aggborough, showing a good example of the two types of stand. The ones at the ends of the pitch are the old type, where the roof is supported by walls at the ends and huge brackets along the back. Larger stands of this type also had pillars along the front supporting the roof, which obstructed the view somewhat. There aren't many of those left. The stands along the sides of the pitch are the cantilever type, developed in the 1950s, where the roof is balanced by a counterweight behind the back wall.

Here at Aggborough, the stands at both ends of the pitch are for standing spectators. Standing is no longer allowed at all in the top two divisions, for safety reasons, and many clubs in the third and fourth divisions now have little or no standing room.

This ground has not had its corners filled in, so there is a gap between that stands.
