Haltwhistle in Northumberland, where I was about four weeks ago, claims to be the centre of Great Britain, although it is over 100 km away from Dunsop Bridge which has a better claim to that honour. Meriden claims that this stone cross on the village green is the centre of England, again without very much justification.
