In Britain, a war memorial is normally some kind of stone obelisk, and possibly a small garden. When I went to Australia, I was surprised at how many things there were classed as war memorials, up to and including the entire Great Ocean Road. This ground is one though. It's called the Memorial Ground and was originally a rugby ground built as a memorial to local rugby players who died in the First World War. Bristol Rovers moved here in 1996. Bristol's rugby club played here from when the ground was built in 1921 until last year, when they left to move in with Bristol City at the larger Ashton Gate stadium instead.
