This morning, I put some more air into the back tyre to make it look something half approaching normally inflated. Just like the two previous times when I've done that, the inner tube has survived for a few hours and then burst on its inside edge. I can't see anything particular about the wheel which could be causing this to happen. Also, having taken the tyre off, I see that it is starting to wear around the rim, presumbaly as a result of being constantly deformed because of how underinflated it is. Hardly any of the tread has worn away. I find that new tyres are quite stiff and can hold their shape without much air in them. As the rubber gets softer, they get flatter unless more air is put in. I think my best bet now is to replace the tyre as soon as I get a chance, and then again in about a week's time, and rely on the stiffness of new tyres.

What's odd is that I noticed earlier that quite a lot of air had gone out of the front tyre. I blew it up again and it's been fine since then so it hasn't got a leak. I wonder where that air went.
