In 1893, Arsenal became the first team from the South of England to join the Football League. Originally they were called Woolwich Arsenal and played in the East End but they moved to this part of London in 1913. Although Everton have played more seasons in the top division than any other team, Arsenal have had the longest unbroken period there. They were put into the top division as part of the reshuffle which occurred when professional football resumed after the First World War. Football had been suspended from the summer of 1915 until the summer of 1919 so as of a couple of months ago, Arsenal have been in the top division every season for 100 years.
