 I was riding on the narrow shoulder of the road but it wasn't very pleasant. Then I noticed that the footpath alongside also allowed bikes so I switched to that. Over the next few hundred metres, it gradually dropped below the level of the road and now I've found that it doesn't actually go across the river.
