These represent malleefowl, a type of bird which lives around here. The metal bird statues look to be slightly larger than life size as a real malleefowl is about 60 cm high, but the mound is the true size of the kind of nest that they use to incubate their eggs. It has a layer of compost at the bottom which releases heat as it rots, and sand on top for insulation. The eggs are buried in the middle. When a chick hatches from an egg, it then burrows its way up and out of the top of the mound. It can fly within a day.
