My van seems to have found some friends. I've just tried calling the hire company again to tell them that I reckon I can get to Perth on time but their scheduling department is in Brisbane so it's already closed for the night. What is a bit annoying is that I've just looked at the Main Roads Twitter feed again and seen that the road which I had originally intended to take today has now opened again. Twitter is a bit vague about saying when tweets were posted. It just says that the announcement was made 5 hours ago. I don't know what specific range of times that could refer to but it seems that the road must have reopened not long after I drove away from the sign in Coolgardie which said that it was closed. If I had read that when I stopped in Norseman then the shortest way to get to Perth would have been to turn round and go back to Coolgardie but I don't think I would have done that. That would have involved driving through all those floods again, and then along the road which had been closed. I would guess that even after that road had been deemed safe to reopen, it would still have been more flooded than the which one I used which hadn't been closed at all.
