According to the radio, this is now officially the wettest January ever recorded in Kalgoorlie and that's almost entirely due to the last two days. 107 mm of rain fell there last night alone, which is 40% of the average for a whole year.

The presenter spoke on the telephone to a farmer who welcomed the rain since water is normally quite scarce here. What amused me was that when she asked him how his animals had reacted to it, he said he hadn't seen any recently as they were all out and about. I can't really imagine a livestock farm so big that even the farmer doesn't see any animals for days.
