There are power lines running along the left side of the road. They don't look to be particularly high voltage so they must waste a lot of power on the 76 km run from Ceduna to Penong. Beyond that, there would just be a single cable, instead of the three here, so I assume it must use the Earth itself for the return half of the circuit.
