I was following the road out of Port Augusta, thinking how the traffic was much lighter than I had expected for the main road across Australia. Then we came to a junction where both of the other vehicles I could see went the other way, towards the relatively nearby settlements on the Eyre Peninsular, leaving me alone on the road to Perth.

A lot of the roadside rest areas are on the crests of hills so they give good views but when you pull back onto the road to leave one, you can't see whether there's anything coming. Eventually, I would realise that it's safe to assume there isn't.
