There are big hedges like this everywhere. I think they're used as windbreaks. They seem to be doing the job well. According to the weather service, there's a strong headwind in this region at the moment but I only felt it for about an hour and now everything seems calm. If that is because of the hedges, it might mean that when the wind turns into a tailwind tomorrow, I won't get the benefit either.
