The Cowra Peace Bell is a copy of the one in front of the United Nations building. Apparently, there are several of these around the world but they are normally in capital cities. Australia's was sited here in Cowra because of the town's aforementioned contribution to world peace, which I now gather stems from an incident in 1944 when 231 Japanese prisoners of war were killed while trying to escape.
