As well as random bits of rubbish, I've also encountered a lot of writing on the road shoulders. It looks like whenever a sign is needed, the message gets written on the road first to show where the sign should go. I don't know how the people who then come along erecting signs know which bits of writing are current and which are still here from years ago. I can't tell what the first piece of writing says here but the second one says "GRASS CUT". Earlier, I saw one which just said "ROCK", as if somebody had written it to show people where to put a sign to warn other people about a rock in the road. I would have thought it would have been easier just to move the rock.
