Like one that I saw at Healvesville near the start of this trip, this tree has a scar where a section of the trunk was removed centuries ago. In Healesville, it was said that the wood was removed to be used as a canoe. The sign here says that this section was probably made into a shield. The tree actually grew about a kilometre away from here but it was moved when the road was widened.
