 I haven't been wearing my glasses today because if I do, they quickly get covered in water droplets so I can't see through them and anyway in this fog, even if they were clean I wouldn't be able to see any further than I can without them. Whenever I stop for a rest, I normally take off my glasses and helmet. Because I wasn't putting the glasses back on today, I forgot to put the helmet on either and left it sitting on top of the paniers. I had to cross a high-speed section of the main highway and had to do it quickly because cars were emerging out of the fog only a couple of seconds away. When a gap came, I dashed across the road, the helmet fell off and almost immediately got hit by a car, which dragged it along for a couple of seconds before ejecting it onto the dotted line between the two traffic lanes so then at least it wasn't hit by any of the forty or so more cars which sped past before I had a chance to retrieve it. I could do with finding a new one now. It can still wear it but it probably doesn't satisfy the safety standards any more. I wonder how the car was affected.
