There's a complicated tangle of roads and cycleways here. The traffic lights on the cycle lanes are traffic-sensing. If you stop on the little white diamonds, they realise that there's a bike there and get ready to change the lights. If they use induction loops, they must be more sensitive than the ones for cars. I normally have to lie a bike down to trigger those.
