On cycling trips like these, it is normally safe to assume that I will average about 10 miles per hour from door to door each day. I haven't acheived that on a single day yet this year, normally because of the hills but occasionally for other reasons. I really thought I was going to do it today. I've come 70 miles so far in less than 7 hours and I'm only 4 miles from my hotel. It seems though that something is determined that I will never acheive that on this trip. In the last couple of hours, the road has been getting hillier and the headwind has been getting stronger but that wasn't going to stop me. Now, at the top of the last hill, the patch which I put on my front Inner tube in New Zealand 27 days ago has just failed and all the air has come out.
